Man, your food sounds so good! I don't think I've ever had pawpaw. How do you make your dhal? I'm cooking curry this evening - exciting! I love Indian food.
PawPaw by any other name is papaya.
Recipe for dhal is:
Red Lentils - 1 cup
Ghee (clarified butter) or oil - 1.5 tablespoons
Onion - finely sliced - 1 medium
Garlic - finely chopped - 2 - or to taste
Ginger (fresh) - finely chopped - 1 teaspoon - or to taste
Ground Tumeric - 0.5 teaspoon - be careful will stain anything forever :-)
Water - 600ml (you may need extra depends on how dry/wet you like it)
Salt - to taste
Wash lentils. Drain well. Heat ghee and fry onion, garlic and ginger until onion is golden. Add tumeric and stir well. Add drained lentils and fry for 1-2 minutes. Add water, lower heat and cook for about 15 minutes. Add salt, mix thoroughly and continue cooking until lentils are soft and the consistency is thick similar to porridge.
